Bringing Ocean Dreams to the Giant Screen

Directed by Johan Candert, Ocean Dreams is a testament to the resilience of marine ecosystems when they are given the space and the time to recover from human impact, and a reminder of the urgent need to protect our oceans for generations to come. The film dives into how human activities, such as overfishing, pollution, and climate change, have threatened the health of our oceans, and we see how individuals, communities, and governments are working to restore and protect them.
Its release on 8th June coincided with World Ocean Day, supported as part of an educational marketing campaign by UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and Voice of the Ocean Foundation. It was produced by Deep Sea Productions and narrated by Shailene Woodley. Hjalmar Palmgren produced the project with Candert, Göran Elhmé, Grant Brokensha, Jason Boswell and Tobias Dahlin as underwater photographers. Simon Stanford is the Cinematographer, Petter Hansson edited the film, and Jonathan Williams is the Consulting Producer for the project.
OnSight provided full Picture Post for the project; the workflow included digital remastering, visual effects, shot extensions, 2D to 3D conversion and colour grading for both Laser and Xenon projection systems. OnSight mastered and delivered 2D, 3D at 1.43:1 and 1.85:1 and fully optimised Dome versions of the film for Giant Screen and standard theatres. The 3D version of the film was created from the 2D source footage by stereoscopic conversion, an intricate rotoscoping and VFX paint intensive process.
OnSight were thrilled to help bring this amazing project to completion, headed by Operations Director Rik Tester and Post Producers Amelia Dive and Sam Farndale. The team included Senior Colourist Andy Lee, who completed the grade and 3D depth grade, Online Editors Adam Sample and Andrew Fisun, Lead Technical Operator Alfie Mitchell, stereo specialist David Wigram and VFX Artist Dan Bourne. The project was also supported by Edit Assistants Max Gauntlett and Loren Kett, Finishing Assistant Sam Langshaw, Digital Asset Coordinator Mary Bristow-Warr and Post Production Assistant Alex Robinson.
