Dreamers to UK Premiere at BFI London Film Festival

September 8, 2025

After world premiering at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s directorial debut ‘Dreamers’ is now set to make its UK Premiere at BFI London Film Festival 2025, where it was previously shown in 2024 in the work-in-progress showcase.

Dreamers is a love story set in the most unlikely of places, a removal centre. We follow Isio, who is caught working without papers, trapped inside Hatchworth, where she learns that finding love, friendship and freedom sometimes means doing the wrong things. It is a story about one woman’s epic journey to finding herself and her power guided by love.

Written and directed by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor and produced by Emily Morgan of Quiddity Films. Dreamers is supported by BBC Film and the BFI in development with National Lottery funding. Sales are being handled by  The Yellow Affair by Newen Connect, Karolina Dwyer and Steven Bestwick. It is also backed by Newen Connect, Finite Films and OnSight. The executive producers include Claudia Yusef for BBC Film, Amy Gardner, Edirinverere Gharoro and Gharoro-Akpojotor.

We loved being a part of this project, from hosting the offline edit through to finishing and delivery. Senior Colourist Andy Lee completed the grade, and the online was carried out by  Senior Online Editor Adam Sample, who loved creating the bold, bright pink titles that characterised and established the film. Re-Recording Mixer & Sound Supervisor Andy Coles completed a 5.1 home entertainment mix at OnSight and a theatrical mix in Pinewood’s Powell theatre.
