ROCK HUDSON: ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWED had its World Premiere as an Official Selection of the 2023 Tribeca Festival. The film is an intimate portrait of actor Rock Hudson, an icon of Hollywood’s Golden Age, whose death from AIDS in 1985 shocked the world and forced a shift in public perception of the pandemic. The film examines not only his cinematic & cultural legacy, but takes a rare and sometimes heartbreaking look at his private life through interviews with close friends and former lovers.
The long-awaited HBO Documentary film is directed by Stephen Kijak, Produced by Will Clarke (Altitude Films), George Chignell (Dog Star Films), Carolyne Jurriaans, Sarah Schechter, and Greg Berlanti. Cinematography was lead by Derek Wiesehahn, Brian Rigney Hubbard, Timothy Flower & Stuart Luck.
We are proud to have completed Picture and Sound Post on this documentary, which was graded by our Senior Colourist Andy Lee, with Adam Sample as Senior Online Editor, the final mix by Senior Dubbing Mixer, Andy Coles, and overseen by Senior Post Producer Jeff Halsey.
Rock Hudson was an icon of the Golden Age of Hollywood, an incredibly popular movie star and heartthrob. Known for his award-winning performance in Giant, as well as Magnificent Obsession and All That Heaven Allows, alongside many romantic comedies over his three decade career. Winning Most Popular Male Star multiple times, he was bedroom-poster-worthy for many women and gay men, moving on into television, before being forced into retirement on account of his illness. Hudson was one of the first celebrities to disclose his AIDS diagnosis, and provoked a huge amount of discussion over his homosexuality and AIDS status, notably in People magazine (with a readership of 2.8 million). Hudson died from an AIDS-related illness on October 2, 1985, at age 59.
