Horsepower launching on Prime Video UK and Ireland September 23rd

Documentary series Horsepower, which will introduce viewers to a world of horseracing never previously captured on film, is coming to Amazon Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on 23rd September. Horsepower follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of leading trainer Andrew Balding, his stables in Kingsclere, Hampshire and his principal jockey Oisin Murphy as they search for the next equine superstar and prepare runners for owners such as the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Qatari Royal family.
Combined with remarkable human-interest stories, audiences will get unprecedented behind the scenes access as they follow Balding and young star Murphy, training and competing in events across the country and internationally over a 9 month period, culminating in the sport’s most prestigious event: Royal Ascot. “In the twenty years since I’ve been in charge at Kingsclere no one else has been given the level of access provided to the ‘Horsepower’ team for this series” said Balding.
The four-part series is a co-production between Lorton Entertainment – the producer of Rooney and the award-winning films Diego Maradona, The Australian Dream and Supersonic – and Equine Productions, who specialise in producing high-quality racing and equestrian content. Directed by Dave James and John Maxse and Produced with Stevan Riley.
All the ups and downs of being a champion jockey are laid bare in Horsepower, where Oisin Murphy bids to bounce back from a career-threatening positive test for cocaine use. Murphy says “I allowed the Horsepower cameras to see me at my best and my worst because I want people to understand the pressures that come with success for a jockey. The series brillianting captures this during what was a very challenging time in my career”.Also featured are Andrew’s sister, the broadcaster and writer Clare Balding, and wife Anna Lisa, who plays a pivotal role in the business.
Post Production
We are proud to have delivered full post production for Horsepower, overseen by Post Producer Joana Coelho. With four episodes and complex workflows, the series was a good challenge for our team. Horsepower was colour graded by Isabelle Payne and finished by OnSight’s Senior Online Editor Adam Sample and Online Editor Andrew Fisun.
Our sound department covered the voice over recording and editing, the sound design and final mix, with Andy Coles as Dubbing Mixer. The project was enormous fun with challenging on-horse audio from the use of Equine Productions’ unique ‘JockeyCam’ that brings Horsepower’s race sequences to life by providing a jockey’s eye view of a race.
