Mr. Stink sees David Walliams' best-selling children's book come to life on the small screen, produced by BBC Comedy. ONSIGHT is delighted to have provided full cameras and stereoscopic post production on the BBC's first narrative programme in 3D, as well as delivering the 2D versioning.
Shot over several weeks, our camera department supplied 3ality Technica Atom and P+S Technik Freestyle rigs with RED Epic cameras and Angenieux Optimo matched lenses. On-set DIT services included data back ups and transcoding. The 2D rushes were taken from one of the eyes filmed to capture the 3D.
ONSIGHT's bespoke 5K workflow also consisted of the post for online and technical pass, depth and colour grade in the team's SGO Mistika suites. ONSIGHT Colourist David Gonzalez Lozano graded the 1 x 60-minute film on the company’s Dolby PRM-4200 monitor, working closely with DoP Philipp Blaubach. A second Mistika suite supported the production for stereoscopic effects and finishing. ONSIGHT provided 3D and 2D mastering, laybacks and deliverables.
The family comedy was adapted by Walliams himself with Simon Nye, telling the story of lonely 12-year-old Chloe (Nell Tiger Free), who invites local tramp Mr Stink (Hugh Bonneville) and his dog Duchess (Pudsey) to hide out in her family’s garden shed. From Chloe's parents (Sheridan Smith and Johnny Vegas) to the Prime Minsiter (David Walliams), there is plenty of entertainment for all ages.
Mr. Stink airs on Sunday 23 December at 18.30 on BBC1 and simultaneously in 3D on BBC HD. On Boxing Day, it is repeated on BBC1.
