Jonathan Creek and ONSIGHT reunite

04th April, 2013

This week saw Jonathan Creek return to our screens.  The Clue of The Savant’s Thumb was a feature-length special, broadcasted on BBC One during the Easter Bank Holiday.  The murder mystery pulled in an impressive 7 million viewers in the 9PM slot.

Alan Davies and Sheridan Smith reprised their well known roles, this time investigating how a body vanished from a room without a trace with incidents surrounding a secret society and a girls' boarding school.  Special guest appearances were made by Nigel Planer, Joanna Lumley and Rik Mayall.

ONSIGHT was the camera facility provider, having worked on past episodes of Jonathan Creek.  The ever popular ARRI Alexa was selected for filming, using Angenieux Optimo 24-290mm and Zeiss Super Speed prime lenses. DoP Geoff Harrison also rejoined the Jonathan Creek production team, acknowledging that the Alexa was the ideal choice to handle the low lighting required, from the night shoots to sequences in the old country home. Our camera department supplied an Iconix miniature camera for numerous effects shots as well.  Mark Kinsella, BBC Line Producer, remarked, "ONSIGHT provided all of our camera equipment on this special and we had fantastic service throughout. Nothing is too much trouble and all of our last minute requests have been accommodated, which is hugely appreciated with our everchanging schedule!".

The show's Creator, David Renwick, wrote and directed this new installment, produced by BBC Comedy.  It is the first one since 'The Judas Tree' in 2010, also facilitated by ONSIGHT.
