ONSIGHT supplies kit for Kingdom of Plants shoot

Onsight has supplied camera and post facilities for Sky’s latest 3D production, Kingdom of Plants With David Attenborough.

The 3 x 60-minute series, which TXs on Saturday on Sky 3D and Sky Atlantic, was shot at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew over the course of a year.

The kit supplied by London facility Onsight included 3Ality Technica rigs and Arri Alexa and Red Epic cameras.

Macro, micro, infra-red and time-lapse techniques were used to bring the world of plants to life, with Onsight’s chief technical officer Richard Mills overseeing the eight camera formats that were used for the shoot.

Onsight also looked after post production for the series, providing conform and 3D finishing and colour grading together with 2D deliverables.

“Having already worked together on two 3D films, David Attenborough and I were keen to really push the technological boundaries in macro. So when the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew suggested working together to create a film, it seemed a perfect fit,” said executive producer and chief executive of Atlantic Productions Anthony Geffen.

“With David’s passion for plants, and one of the largest botanical collections in the world in which to film, we were able to push the 3D technology to capture the lives of plants like never before.”
